Why Do We Use Santoprene Bladders?

We want to make life easier for you in the field.

why do we use santoprene bladders

Using Santoprene has allowed us to simplify the design of our Model 407 Bladder Pump's replacement bladder cartridges.

Santoprene is highly durable, flexible, and resilient. It is ideal for the repeated use demanded by bladder pump operation and dedication in long-term projects. However, our primary goal was to also create a bladder that is easy to replace for those who prefer to change bladders after each use.

Previously, our PTFE and LDPE bladders required a bit more effort to assemble and replace. Our new Santoprene bladder cartridges are an all-in-one replacement part. They literally take under two minutes to change, with no tools required. See the video below!

The new bladder cartridges eliminated the need for a stainless steel rod and sleeve, making the new 407 1.66" Bladder Pumps about 2 lbs lighter and easier to transport and handle in the field.

In addition, the new bladder design allows more volume to be sampled at once, so your purging and sampling times may be more efficient, saving you time.

We want you to get the best quality samples.

When sampling groundwater, the goal is to obtain samples representative of actual in situ conditions and maintain sample integrity by minimizing the changes in sample quality and chemistry during collection.

Santoprene is well-suited for this. It is trusted in many industries, including household and medical, for its inert and chemical-resistant properties.

Santoprene is resistant to various chemicals, including acids, bases, and petroleum products, making it suitable for harsh environments and potable water applications. It's excellent for PFAS sampling applications. It can also withstand extreme temperatures and abrasion, allowing sampling in various conditions, even sediment laden water.

Like our previous bladders – but better – Santoprene bladders allow slow, even bladder compression during a drive cycle, which minimizes turbulence and allows for a steady sample flow.

We want to use materials that are better for the environment.

When comparing our PTFE bladders to our new Santoprene bladders, Santoprene generally has a lower carbon footprint.

During the production of the material, Santoprene doesn't require curing or high temperatures and pressure, making it more energy efficient. No harsh chemicals of concern are used during the production of Santoprene.

In addition, Santoprene production scrap can be reworked, and parts made from Santoprene are easier to recycle at the end of their life.

Overall, Santoprene is designed to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly than PTFE.

Note:

Existing 407 Bladder Pump customers can take advantage of the new Santoprene replacement bladder cartridges, as they are compatible with our previous Bladder Pump models!
