An Understanding of RRL Radio Telemetry System Requirements

solinst rrl radio telemetry systems for groundwater dataloggers

Thank you for choosing the 9200 RRL Radio Telemetry System.

The following document will help ensure that this is the correct system for your application.

  1. Is your Home Station computer close to the Remote Station(s)? i.e. within 20 miles (30 km)?    Y / N

    If no, see step 3.

    Note:

RRL Networks can connect to a Solinst STS Edge cellular network for greater communication distances. Contact Solinst for details.

  2. If yes, do you have line-of-sight from the Remote Station to the Home Station?    Y / N

    Note:

900 MHz radios can communicate distances up to 20 miles (30 km). RRL radios communicate via omnidirectional antennas line-of-sight transmission. They must be able to "see" each other in order to have effective communication. The RRL antenna should always be mounted on the outside of any enclosure for maximum communication distance. The path between radio antennas should not be through trees or perpendicular to the sides of flat buildings.

    If no, see step 3.

  3. If no, have you purchased an adequate number of Relay Stations to successfully transfer the signal?
    Y / N

    Note:

A main power source, in addition to the batteries, is required for each Relay Station.

    If no, contact Solinst.

  4. Do you have a dedicated computer that the Home Station radio can remain connected to, with main power available?    Y / N

    Note:

The batteries, in addition to a main power source are required.

    If no, contact Solinst.

  5. Specifics relating to operation:
    • Up to 4 water level dataloggers can be connected to each Remote Station (using a splitter)
    • Direct Read Cable/Wellhead Connector Cable and Reader Cable for each datalogger (Reader Cables connect directly to a LevelVent Wellhead)
    • STS/RRL Edge Software (Windows 7, 8 and 10 compatible)
    • Optional High Gain Antenna(s) (sourced by user)
    • Optional Solar Power Connection Assembly
    • Optional Battery Charger Assembly
    • PC Interface Cable for Levelogger or LevelVent, or AquaVent USB Wellhead Connector Cable (backup download option)
